COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Frank Walsh told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday they will be making contract offers to four bargaining groups over the next two weeks.
He said offers will be made to the Police Officers of Michigan on Friday. That union is representing Branch County Sheriff’s Department deputies. An offer to the Command Officers of Michigan representing corrections officers for the Sheriff’s Department is scheduled to be made on Tuesday.
Offers are also scheduled to be made to the Circuit Court employees union on Tuesday and to the District Court union on September 5.
Details on the offers to the unions were not released.
Walsh indicated to Commissioners an executive session maybe needed during their meeting on Tuesday afternoon to explain how a wage and salary study could impact contract talks and the development of next year’s budget.
Contracts between the county and five unions were scheduled to expire on December 31.
A new three year contract with the P.O.A.M. for 911 dispatchers was approved last month. It increased wages to allow Branch County Central Dispatch to be more competitive with other agencies.
Branch County 9-1-1 Director Bob Swick told the County’s Communications Board last week the new contract has improved the manpower situation for the agency.
