COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Earlier this year, the Branch County Road Commission was forced by the state to close down the Log Road bridge due to the design.
Manager Jay Miller says it’s an old design that uses tubes, and they were beginning to deteriorate and fail. He says the good news is the process to replace the bridge is now underway along with a second bridge thanks to a federal program.
He says they have signed the contracts to replace the Central Road bridge and that construction is expected to begin in late spring of next year. As for the Log Road bridge, it’s still too early to establish a timeframe for the work to be done.
Miller says Branch County has 78 bridges, and each would cost upwards of a million dollars to replace.
