STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater and Bronson cross country teams participated in the Sturgis Kickoff Classic Saturday morning at Sturgis Middle School. It was the second meet of the season for the Vikings, while the Cardinals were making their season debut.
Bronson senior Ashlynn Harris made it two-for-two in race victories this season. Her time of 20:45.03 helped pace the Viking girls to a second place finish; the team finished with 66 points, 27 points behind the host school. Alonna Goodsell finished tenth, jsut ahead of teammate Miriam Sanchez-Lopez, Piper Grigsby was 21st, and Lydia Wells placed 26th.
Coldwater sophomore Gwen Eby finished fourth with her time of 21:21.22 as the Lady Cardinals placed sixth with 139 points. Ellerie Bucklin placed 24th, Miyah Moore was 40th, Olivia Golematis was 41st, and Isabella Angevine finished 48th.

In the boys race, Coldwater had three runners place in the top twenty; their finished fourth with a team score of 109, just one ahead of Centreville. Luke Aerts led the way with his 13th place finish, while Drew Vanderpuyl was 16th and Sebastian Hernandez placed 17th. Also scoring for the Cardinals were Aiden Parker, who finished 29th, and Lucas Newberry, who placed 36th.
Bronson finished sixth with their team score of 143 points. Adam Franks had an 18th place finish to pace the Vikings, followed by Brayton Cosby in 25th, Carter Sikorski in 30th, Denver Siler in 31st, and Rylan Fincham in 51st.

Both teams will return to action after Labor Day. Bronson will run at the Harper Creek Optimist Invitational on September 2nd, while Coldwater will be at the Springport Invitational on September 3rd.
