BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school basketball, Coldwater opened their season with a 57-40 road win over Batle Creek Lakeview.
The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 25-4 first quarter lead behind some tenacious defense and 13 points from Carlee Crabtree. Crabtree led all scorers with 17 while Tyler Scheid added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Emilee Smoker scored 11 points and Malorie Rzepka dished out 7 assists.
Coldwater travels to Hastings to open up conference play Friday.
Lakeview played without veteran coach Don Bussler on the bench. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports he abruptly quit on Monday after he was informed by the district he was being put on administrative leave due to a personnel issue. No further information was released by the district and Bussler did not comment on the reason behind the district’s decision.
In the junior varsity action last night, Coldwater topped Lakeview 39-35 behind 10 points from Abby Herman. The Lady Cards also took the freshman game 25-22. Jenni Hernandez scored eight points.
