COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center in Coldwater has seen a 10% increase in pool use, which amounts to over 2,000 more visits this year compared to the same period in 2024.
A new five-year agreements with Coldwater Community Schools, the Browne Family, the City of Coldwater, and Branch County have stabilized the center’s finances following an operational deficit of over $300,000 per year prior to the new management. An advisory committee with representatives from key stakeholders was also formed to oversee the center’s operations.
A standardized $5 daily rate for residents and visitors was implemented in January. Monthly passes are available for $20, or $15 for those under 18, with a $40 family pass option.
During the summer, the center offered nine weekly water fitness classes, a week-long learn-to-swim camp, and three-week learn-to-swim courses, attracting 72 participants to the swim classes. All fitness classes were also new this year, except for the long-running AquaFit program.
In September, the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program for seniors will also return.
In addition The Barracudas Swim Club brought the Meijer State Games of Michigan to Coldwater for the first time after its cancellation due to a lack of a host in 2004. The competition hosted 63 athletes from three states and drew over 100 spectators and volunteers.
The center will now shift to fall hours beginning on September 2nd.
