Jan Allen Garr, 71, of Bronson passed away Friday, August 29, 2025 at Parkview Hospital while surrounded by loved ones.
A private funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Bronson.
There will be a visitation for all Thursday, September 4 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Bethel Gilead Community Church.
Jan was born February 17, 1954 to Dorothy and Victor Garr in Fort Wayne. He grew up there, moving to Bronson after completing nursing and respiratory therapy programs.
He spent his career in respiratory therapy, working nights at Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater. He retired just last year.
Jan was a jack of all trades and enjoyed many hobbies. He could fix anything. He could also create just about anything- including the home he lived in. His free time was spent woodworking, crafting beautiful stone creations, or tending to his impressive garden and its orchard.
He was a great cook, always finding new recipes to perfect. His kitchen abilities extended to preserving jams, salsas, and applesauce from his homegrown produce. He also enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, and spending time with loved ones.
Jan is survived by his daughters Chloe and Hannah Garr; his long time friend who eventually became his partner Audrey Czajkowski, along with her children Katie and Michael; his sisters Judy (John) Hensler and Patricia (Jim) Barkley; sister-in-law Cara Carson; his nieces Sarah (Brian) Ackerman, Elizabeth (Troy) Ellefson, Brooke (Matt) Hylton, and Izabel Carson; his nephew David (Maeghan) Hensler; and his dear friends Bill Penn, Bruce Gregory, and Dawn Merriman.
Jan is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marcia Garr.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Bronson Fire Department and Lifecare EMS for their dedication and rapid response. Additionally, their immense appreciation to Insight and Parkview MICU for the care provided.
Memorial donations can be made to the Bronson Fire Department.
