COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners decided during their work session on Thursday to bring forward a request to name a proposed county park on Bater Road and establish an annual budget.
Formal action is expected to be taken by the Commissioners during their regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The county wants to turn a 168 acre property into a public park which will offer residents and visitors a chance to explore nature and wildlife.
County Administrator Frank Walsh suggested to Commissioners that the park be named “Bater Road Nature Park” and that the annual budget not exceed $15,000.
He says the current tax bill exceeds $30,000 and there is an $80,000 fund set aside from the property lease to help defray the cost of creating the park.
Walsh added that once the Commissioners consider the naming the park and setting the budget guidelines, the county will file a property tax exemption with Batavia Township.
There are plans to have the Branch County Road Commission put in a gravel parking lot and signage. It’s hoped the park will be ready for the public by the end of the year.
