LANSING, MI (WJXQ) – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says the state Capitol is not safe and weapons need to be banned immediately following this week’s riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Nessel is calling on the Capitol Commission, which sets the rules for governance of the Capitol building, to take the action they did not take last year after armed protesters got into the building in Lansing.
However, Capitol Commission vice chairman John Truscott says the commission lacks the funding and staff to implement a weapons ban. AG Nessel says the lack of money shouldn’t used as an excuse to stop a gun ban from going into effect.
