Todd Robert Cochrane, 61, of Quincy passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 8, 2025,at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy with Pastor Mark Case of California Community Church officiating with military honors to follow the service at the funeral home.
Following the service, a reception will be held at the Quincy American Legion.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Cremation will follow the service.
He was born June 4, 1964 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Robert and Cherie (Boyd) Cochrane.
Todd graduated from Quincy High School in 1983 and went on to join the United States Navy. After 22 years of distinguished service, he retired in 2007 with the rank of Senior Chief.
During the end of active duty in his military career, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
A lifelong technology enthusiast, Todd was always interested in technology. In the late 1990s, he launched the first dial up internet bulletin board service “BBS Network” in Guam. In 2002, he founded and launched a popular internet technology news website, Geek News Central, a widely respected technology news website.
Todd spent time in Waco, TX where he launched his first podcast for Geek News Central. He then went on to establish one of the earliest podcast networks, the Tech Podcast Network (TPN), which began with twelve shows. Todd’s weekly 13 year running New Media Show was often described as the show where you’ll “get a PhD in podcasting”.
He was also a published author. In 2005, he wrote Podcasting: The Do-It-Yourself Guide, published by Wiley Publishing, which was one of the first books written about podcasting. In 2015, he was inducted into the Podcast Hall of Fame during its inaugural ceremony.
He married Shoko Higa on November 18, 1994. Of all of his accomplishments, none brought him more pride or joy than being a father and grandfather. He poured his heart into his family, cherishing every moment spent together and never missing a big event in his children’s lives. His children were his greatest legacy, and his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Surviving besides his wife, Shoko, children, Natalie, Anna, Ray, Chris Cochrane and Stephanie Swaney; grandchildren, Alora, Fitzgerald, Analiya, Mary and Blair and family: Cherie, Cochrane, Chantal and James Paxton; Monique, Andra, Zachary and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cochrane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Quincy American Legion or Quincy American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
