UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – There has been a request for a recount on the Union Township ballot question to have the Township Board form a Planning Commission. The question was voted down 268-243 in the November 6 election.
Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak says the request for the recount was made at the clerks office on Tuesday morning, one day after the Branch County Board of Canvassers finished their work on the November sixth election. Kubasiak is waiting to hear back from the State of Michigan as to when the recount can take place since the State Board of Canvassers won’t meet until next Monday.
The ballot question was supported by the group Concerned Citizens of Branch County who are fighting DTE Energy plans to put wind turbines in northwest Branch County. They have asked the County to intervene on their behalf and put together a county wide ordinance on wind turbines after the ballot issue failed. Right now, there are no zoning laws in Union Township.
