READING, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say a 22-year-old suspect from Camden is in custody in Ohio following last Friday’s armed robbery at the Long Lake Party Store on Bankers Road just east of the Branch-Hillsdale County line.
State Police say a man entered the store wearing sunglasses and a bandana at about 1:45 p.m., said he had a gun and demanded money.
He got away with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise from the store.
Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted with the investigation at the scene of the robbery.
Thanks to information from Hillsdale County Corrections Officers and tips from citizens on the Sheriff’s Department web site, an identification of the suspect was made.
The suspect got to Ohio where State Troopers tried to stop him for a broken headlight on Saturday morning. A pursuit then took place which ended when stop sticks were used to disable the vehicle.
At last report, the suspect was being held in Ohio. Michigan authorities will seek criminal charges and extradition from Ohio. His identity is being withheld until he is arraigned in Michigan.
