AUBURN, IN (WTVB) – An Angola man has been charged in connection to shots fired Wednesday night at the DeKalb County Free Fall Street Fair.
20-year-old Darion Hunter was arrested after police allegedly spotted him on a video shooting two rounds while fighting with a group of people, according to a press release shared Thursday by the Auburn Police Department.
Police say they also arrested 19-year-old Aaron McNutt of Garrett, Indiana. He’s accused of sending threatening messages on Snapchat that were connected to the shots fired investigation.
The situation started shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when police responded to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of 6th Street, north of the fairgrounds.
No one was injured by the gunfire.
Police determined Hunter was the suspect using evidence including witness interviews and footage from nearby businesses and homes.
According to the release, footage shows a “brief physical altercation between several young males,” and at one point someone was “minorly hurt.”
Hunter was allegedly seen on film running toward the group and briefly engaging in the fight before drawing a handgun and firing two shots.
While police did not share details on the Snapchat threats, they said McNutt admitted to sending messages that could be perceived as threatening.
Police took several firearms that McNutt had. He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail for intimidation, a Level 6 felony, and a misdemeanor count of harassment.
