PARMA, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater scored the first 21 points of the game, then had to hold off Parma Western in the second half as the Cardinals picked up a 28-21 win on the Panthers’ Homecoming night.
Coldwater scored on their first three drives, on a 13-yard Dracyn Foster quarterback keeper, a 16-yard pass from Foster to Evan Lewis, and a 62-yard strike from Foster to Bennett McDonald, to take a 21-0 first quarter lead. After Western’s first score of the game early in the second, the Foster-to-McDonald connection for the Cardinals worked again midway through the quarter from 23 yards out. The Panthers added another TD late in the period and had the only score of the second half.
Coldwater finished with 391 yards of total offense (239 passing, 152 rushing), compared to 247 yards for Western (138 passing, 109 rushing). Both teams were picked off once, and the Panthers recovered two Cardinal fumbles for a turnover margin of +2.
Foster was 14-for-21 for 239 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception, while also leading the ground game with 14 carries for 82 yards and a score. McDonald had 5 receptions for 109 yards and two TDs, and Lewis had 4 catches for 96 yards and a score. Landon Dirschell had 11 carries for 53 yards. McDonald, Michael Wright, and Cody Morrison had 6 tackles apiece to lead the defense.
With the win, Coldwater improved to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the Interstate 8. They will play at Pennfield’s Homecoming game next Friday.
