CENTERVILE, MI (WTVB) – The White Pigeon man arrested last week for making threats against the St Joseph County Courthouse made his initial court appearance on Monday.
64-year-old Lawrence Rice was arraigned on charges of, Threat of terrorism, Terrorism – using the internet/telecommunications to commit, and Weapons – carrying concealed.
Deputies were able to quickly locate Rice on Friday and take him into custody after the incident, According to Chief Deputy Zachary Zuk, Rice was in possession of a gun, which raised concerns given the nature of the threats being made.
The sheriff’s office has requested that Attorney General Dana Nessel appoint a special prosecutor to the case, due to witnesses being county employees.
Zuk says the motive behind the threats is still unclear at this time.
