UNDATED (WTVB) – Branch County’s cross country teams participated in two of the largest regular season meets of the season on an unusually warm Saturday for early October.
Portage Invitational
The Coldwater Cardinals joined over 6,200 other athletes from across the state at Portage West Middle School for the Portage Invitational. In the Division 2 men’s race, the Cardinals finished 46th out of 51 teams with 1,216 points. There were 438 runners who finished that race; Coldwater’s Luke Aerts was 137th, Drew Vanderpuyl was 246th, Lucas Newberry was 286th, Aiden Parker was 322nd, and Hunter Wagoner was 349th.
Coldwater did not have enough runners for a team score in the Division 2 women’s race; Gwen Eby placed 115th out of the 221 runners that were able to finish.

Hudson Booster Invitational
Bronson, Quincy, and Union City all ran at the 53rd annual Hudson Booster Invitational, where the high school races were divided into an upper division (for schools with enrollment of 300 and above) and a lower division (enrollment of 299 and below).
In the upper division girls race, Bronson finished third with 82 points, while Quincy didn’t have a team score. For the Vikings, Ashlynn Harris was fourth, Miriam Sanchez tenth, Piper Grigsby 18th, Alonna Goodsell 23rd, and Lydia Wells 36th. For the Orioles, Kendyl Musielewicz was 33rd, Cali Richards 69th, Elizabeth Craig 71st, and Isabelle Marske 84th.
Bronson was ninth in the upper division boys race with 201 points, while Quincy was 14th with 301 points. Scoring for the Vikings were Brayton Cosby (19th), Denver Siler (28th), Jack Ganton (35th), Adam Franks (55th), and Carter Sikorski (64th). For the Orioles, Hunter Walker was 22nd, Nathan Dunn 50th, Coy Wood 61st, Eli Morris 77th, and Eddie Miller 91st.
Union City finished second in the lower division girls race with 49 points. They also took third in the lower division boys race with 105 points. For the Charger girls, Allison Gautsche was second, Parker Williams tenth, Elizabeth Arlt 16th, Carly Smith 17th, and Kylie Creech 25th. Ben Gautsche was second for the Charger boys; also scoring were Cullen Decker (6th), Noah June (9th), Luke McKown (49th), and Brady Anthony (57th).
In the middle school girls race, Quincy was second with 137 points, while Legg Middle School was ninth with 234 points. The middle school boys race saw LMS finish 21st and Quincy 22nd.
