BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The latest 11-player high school football playoff rankings from the M.H.S.A.A. show that as of now three Branch County teams would make the post season.
The top 32 teams from the eight 11-player divisions will qualify for the playoffs. The rankings are determined by a playoff point system that factors in a team’s performance and strength of schedule.
With three weeks left in the regular season, the 5-1 Coldwater Cardinals are 19th in Division Three with 46.333 points. The Cardinals close out their season with home games against Okemos and Hastings and a week 9 contest at Marshall.
In Division Seven, Bronson and Union City would get in if the playoffs started this week.
The 5-1 Vikings are 18th with 30.167 points while the 4-2 Chargers are 21st with 26.500 points. Bronson finishes on the road with games at White Pigeon and Reading during the next two weeks. They will play at an undetermined site in week 9 as part of the Southwest 10/Big 8 crossovers.
Union City will finish with three home games. They will host Reading and Springport and then host a Southwest 10 team in week 9.
Quincy has fallen out of the top 32 in Division Seven following losses to Union City and Reading. The 4-2 Orioles are now ranked 34th with 21.833 points. Quincy will play at Springport this Friday, host Maple Valley in week 8 and close the regular season with a home game against a Southwest 10 opponent.
