BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – With two weeks left in the regular season, the latest 11-player high school football playoff rankings from the M.H.S.A.A. show that three Branch County teams would make the post season while another is one spot away from qualifying.
The top 32 teams from the eight 11-player divisions qualify for the playoffs. The rankings are determined by a playoff point system that factors in a team’s performance and strength of schedule.
The 6-1 Coldwater Cardinals have moved up to 14th in Division Three with 51.429 points. The Cardinals close out their season with a home game against Hastings and a week 9 contest at Marshall.
In Division Seven, Bronson and Union City would get in if the playoffs started this week.
The 6-1 Vikings are 16th with 33.286 points while the 5-2 Chargers are 21st with 28 points. Bronson finishes on the road with games at Reading and at an undetermined site in week 9 as part of the Southwest 10/Big 8 crossovers.
Union City will host Springport this Friday and then host a Southwest 10 Conference team in week 9.
Quincy has dropped three straight after starting 4-0 but they are still in the playoff hunt in Division Seven. The 4-3 Orioles are now ranked 33rd with 22.143 points. Quincy will play host to Maple Valley this Friday and close the regular season with a home game against a Southwest 10 Conference opponent.
The official M.H.S.A.A. announcement on who qualified for the state football tournament will be made on Sunday, October 26.
