COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The second of two community engagement meetings is scheduled for tonight at Coldwater High School.
In the first meeting on Tuesday the steering committee laid out plans that could potentially lead to a $64 million bond issue next spring.
Coldwater High School is nearly 70-years-old and is in desperate needs of repairs and upgrades , with top priorities including a new roof, air conditioning, and making classrooms ADA compliant.
Other needs for renovation include the aging infrastructure like plumbing and updating outdated technology including a dedicated STEM lab, multipurpose athletic space, and band and choir additions.
If approved, formal design and bidding would begin in summer 2026, with an estimated two-year construction period, potentially being completed by the fall of 2029.
School Superintendent Paul Flynn has stressed the importance of community involvement and transparency throughout the process, noting the previous lack of support for similar proposals, in recent years voters rejected bond issues including a $53 million request in 2021 and 2022.
As for the potential cost for tax payers under the current plan, would be 1.5 mills which translates to about $150 per $100,000 of assessed value.
The next community engagement meeting is scheduled for this evening at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media room.

The voters said no to $53 M so they must have wanted to pay more. We’ll may it $64M this time. Yeah, that makes scence. No wonder our students are behind the nation……
