COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even with very little rain, you may have noticed a giant sunflower has popped up on the front side of The Children’s Museum of Branch County in downtown Coldwater.
Actually, it’s a 21-foot sunflower sculpture that has been erected on of corner of the 125-year-old building to compliment the flower mural that was painted on the side of the building earlier this summer.
The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board approved the design of a mural of flowers as well as the final design of the sunflower back during their June 25th meeting.
The concept of the sunflower was first approved by the D.D.A. Board and the Historic District Commission in late 2023.
The City of Coldwater’s Historic District Commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness request from the Children’s Museum of Branch County at their July meeting.
It was to be constructed at an estimated cost of at least $70,000.

That looks hazardous. Someone could get killed by flying parts in a wind storm.
