UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City and Athens school districts are among 23 in the state to receive a share of $35.9 million from the Michigan Department of Education’s Clean Bus Energy Grant program to add 87 electric buses and 10 propane buses to fleets across the state.
In this latest round of grants announced this week, Union City Community Schools is receiving $2.18 million for six electric buses, while Athens Area Schools receives $2.05 million for five electric buses.
The new grants are Round 3 of the Clean Bus Energy Grant program, which to date has awarded more than $81 million to Michigan schools for buses and associated infrastructure.
Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy Director Phil Roos says, “The commitment by state and federal governments to provide schools with more environmentally friendly buses is good for our children, good for our schools and good for our communities,” with the clean-powered school buses improving air quality and freeing up schools to invest in the classroom.

Has anyone checked with the fire chief to see if they can deal with a EV bus fire?
Really? Has anyone personally investigated the safety of these buses?
