UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A heavy turnout led to a long night and early morning of counting the ballots in Branch County.
Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak said there was a delay in counting the Union Township ballots because they were having problems balancing the tabulator with the voter list.
Combining the Burlington Township precinct in Calhoun County with the Union Township vote totals, William Avery is the unofficial winner in the Union City Village President’s race by four votes over James P. Hurley 204-200. The vote totals are not official under they are certified by the Branch County Board of Canvassers.
Meanwhile, Jill McCombs, Ralph L. Gottschalk and LeAndre M. Otis were elected as Union City Village Trustees.
Kyle Miller and Archie Mears were elected to the Union City Board of Education.
The Union Township question on whether or not the Township Board should form a Planning Commission was voted down 268-243.
Tekonsha Township voters rejected a pair of fire station millage proposals, with Proposal A losing 375-249, and Proposal B being voted down by a 390-220 count.
All of the ballot proposals including Proposal One that legalizes recreational marijuana in Michigan were passed statewdie, but Branch County voters said no to all three.
