JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson, Quincy, and Union City’s cross country teams ran at an MHSAA Division 3 Regional hosted by Napoleon at Jackson’s Ella Sharp Park Friday afternoon, and it wound up being a great day for the Viking girls squad, who qualified for next weekend’s MHSAA Lower Peninsula Cross Country Finals at Michigan International Speedway.
Jackson Lumen Christi won the girls race with 48 points, while Olivet was second with 58 points, and Bronson was third with 87 points. The top three teams in each regional race move on to MIS, along with the top 15 individuals; if less than 7 individual qualifiers are in the top 15, then the next best individuals not on a qualifying team would fill the remaining 7 individual qualifying spots..
Scoring for the Vikings were Ashlyn Harris (5th), Alonna Goodsell (9th), Miriam Sanchez (21st), Piper Grigsby (26th), and Lydia Wells (30th); Adelynn Cosby (44th) and Abbi Ferry (81st) also ran for the purple and gold.
Union City was sixth with 192 points, with Allison Gautsche qualifying for the Finals with her 15th place finish. Quincy finished 13th with 337 points; top finisher Kendyl Musielewicz was 43rd.
In the boys race, Quincy was fourth with 182 points, Union City finished eighth with 233 points, and Bronson was 10th with 239 points. Lumen Christi, Hanover-Horton, and Jonesville took the top three spots. The Chargers’ Ben Gautsche (12th) and the Orioles’ Hunter Walker (19th) qualified as individuals for the Finals.
