BURR OAK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Authorities in St. Joseph County are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident after a young man was found deceased along a rural roadside early Sunday morning.
Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 7:09 a.m. Sunday morning, reporting an unresponsive individual near the intersection of US-12 and Burr Oak Road. Emergency medical personnel arriving on the scene confirmed the individual was deceased.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Kayden Gruver. Preliminary findings suggest Gruver was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved may be a 2007–2015 GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, likely showing front-end damage on the passenger side. The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the vehicle or who may have had contact with Gruver on the evening of October 25 or the morning of October 26 to come forward.
Local residents and businesses in the area are also being asked to review any surveillance footage that may have captured the incident or the vehicle in question.
