DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Red Wings have finalized their roster ahead of the season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow.
Former first round pick Evgeny Svechnikov cleared waivers and was one of 11 players assigned to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Detroit assigned six, including Michael Rasmussen and Dennis Cholowski, to its taxi squat.
The moves leave 22 players on the Red Wings roster.
The NHL is releasing COVID-19 testing results with the season set to begin on Wednesday. The league says 27 players had confirmed positive cases among nine different clubs, including 17 on the Dallas Stars. Most players were asymptomatic, and all are recovering without complication.
The results were from a two-week period during training camps from December 30 through January 11. Around 12,000 tests were administered to more than 1,200 players.
