BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It’s that time of the year when drivers should avoid distractions and be extra alert for deer.
Data recently released by the Michigan State Police showed one of six Michigan traffic accidents in 2017 were caused by a collision with a deer. In October and November 2017, it was one in three accidents.
Law enforcement officials say it’s mating season and the deer are not paying attention to you.
As you are driving, watch the sides of the roads. It would be a good idea to keep both hands on the wheel, stay off your phone, leave the radio alone and slow down.
The Michigan State Police recently reported the number of car-deer crashes in Branch County in 2017 were about the same as 2016. Of the 758 crashes reported in Branch County in 2017, a total of 17 resulted in injuries. There were no fatal crashes in Branch County. Statewide, there were 17 fatal car-deer crashes in 2017. Branch County had 761 car-deer crashes in 2016.
