COLDAWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County residents awoke Sunday morning to the first snowfall of the season.
The National Weather Services says most of the area received between two to three inches with a few isolated higher amounts reported. Consumers Energy says the heavy wet snow and wind did cause a few power disruptions but nothing widespread.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office reported a handful of slide-off accidents mainly early Sunday morning.
The big focus now is on the lake effect snow ongoing to our west near Lake Michigan, where some areas saw snowfall rates of two plus inches per hour overnight.
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect this morning for places like Benton Harbor and South Bend where forecasters say as much as one foot of snow is possible by the time the system begins to wind down later today.
