COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It has taken the local social media world by storm ever since the news came out surrounding a citation being issued to Camping World in Coldwater over the recent installation of a giant American flag.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says there has been a big misunderstanding. Baker says the flag itself isn’t the issue, rather the size of the flag pole’s base.
Baker says there are no city ordinances against having the flag, even one that size.
He says the letter sent to Camping World is actually fairly common in similar situations in both retail and residential.
As for the next step in the process, Baker says the city is still waiting for a response from Camping World.

They should just pay you for a building permit. I’m sure whoever installed it was licensed and knew what they were doing. It’s a beautiful sight coming into Coldwater off I-69. Isn’t that an important reason to have a beauty like that flying? Shame on coldwater for making such a stink. Money talks
I agree with Kathy. At this point, who really has more love for Coldwater and the United State…….the business owners at Camping World or the unelected Bureaucrats in Coldwater.
The Score is…. Camping World 1 City of Coldwater 0
It’s a shame people feel this way to bad it’s not bigger can’t we just be happy that some people do love this country
Not a fan of Camping World, but this flag situation is ridiculous. It’s a symbol of our country. The fact that it’s been installed for how long? It didn’t just happen last month. Maybe the Coldwater management should’ve payed more attention to allowing Pot Stores placed on top of each other. Just how many of those do we need.
Oh yeah I forgot that Flag and Pole won’t be paying any taxes. But it sure looks great compared to many of those stores.
I totally agree with Kathy!!! We need more American flags flying in America and in Coldwater! If you want it to fly and not fall over, it has to have a sturdy base! You are the City Council, make the necessary changes and make it legal, please?
I bet there was already a building permit when they put it there, and now Coldwater wants to “change the rules”. Seen that w time or two.
