COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch Intermediate School District Superintendent Kristine Jenkins told the district’s Board of Education during their monthly meeting Wednesday that they have been approached by officials from Coldwater Community Schools about taking over adult education for the community.
Jenkins said she was first contacted by Coldwater when she became the BISD Superintendent in July. She explained to the board what is currently offered and where the classes are held, as well as the state and federal funding sources.
Jenkins mentioned during Wednesday’s board discussion that adult education in the Coldwater district will not be available after this school year because their grant funding is coming to an end, and she is afraid there will be a void in the community if adult ed is not offered.
Jenkins said she told Coldwater Superintendent Terry Boguth that they want to keep the Lincoln Learning Center and Coldwater High School sites.
Jenkins pointed out running an adult education program can be time consuming and there have been staffing issues in the Coldwater district.
There will be more discussions and no decisions have been made yet, but the BISD board gave Jenkins permission to continue working on it.
