CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – An autopsy has confirmed the remains found Monday in Kalamazoo County were those of Venus Stewart.
The Sturgis Journal reports St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough said the remains were positively identified after they were found in a shallow grave near 42nd Street and U Avenue south of Climax.
After years of denial, her estranged husband Doug finally admitted to killing her and disposing of the body. He led authorities to her grave on Monday.
Doug Stewart was convicted in 2011 of killing the Bronson High School graduate by a St. Joseph County jury at the end of a three week trial.
He is serving life without chance of parole at the Saginaw Correctional Facility.
Venus Stewart went missing from outside her parent’s home in Colon Township in April 2010. The disappearance followed a bitter custody dispute
