COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Litchfield man was arraigned Tuesday in Branch County District Court following an August 2025 vehicle crash that severely injured a motorcyclist.
37-year-old Troy LaGrande Hull faces a felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon (a double-edged knife) and misdemeanor charges for operating a vehicle without insurance, causing serious injury with a moving violation, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
According to the complaint, Hull admitted the truck he was driving was uninsured and unregistered when it collided with a motorcycle August 29.
The motorcycle driver, Jeffrey James Smith, sustained severe injuries, including a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, a dissected carotid artery, and significant fractures, requiring life flight transport.
Hull, who was not arrested at the time of the accident but was taken into custody and formally charged this week, appeared in court Tuesday, where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
Branch County District Judge Brent R. Weigle set a $5,000 personal recognizance bond with conditions.
A Probable Cause Hearing is set for December 9 and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled December 16, 2025.
