MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – An Indiana man was arrested Thursday by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly staging his own kidnapping and assault in an attempt to contact a protected party.
He is facing charges of aggravated stalking and violating a personal protection order.
The Sheriff’s Office says the incident began when the man used a telecommunications device to contact an individual who holds a personal protection order against him. Concerned for his safety due to the nature of the communication, the protected party reported the alleged kidnapping and assault to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies launched an investigation that spanned several days. The search concluded when authorities located the man and determined that the entire incident had been fabricated.
The identity of the 35-year-old Indiana man has not been released.
