BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings almost pulled off an amazing comeback on their home court against the Concord Yellow Jackets on Friday night.
But a rally from a 15 point fourth quarter deficit fell short as the Vikings were beaten by the undefeated Yellow Jackets 53-51 in a Big 8 Conference boys basketball game.
Concord had the lead throughout most of the game. They were ahead 9-4 after the first quarter, 25-13 at the half and 43-31 after three quarters.
The Yellow Jackets seemed to have things well in hand when they had a 52-42 fourth quarter lead. But Bronson scored nine straight points to cut the lead to 52-51. They forced a turnover and had possession of the ball with 25 seconds left with a chance to win the game.
However, the Vikings were unable to get the winning bucket and the Yellow Jackets managed to hold on for the win as they improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 Conference. Bronson is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big 8.
Zeb Olson had a double-double for the Vikings with 20 points and 10 rebounds. 18 of his points came after halftime. Layne Arver added 15 points thanks to four triples.
Concord’s Brady Garrett was on fire from distance as he poured in seven triples and finished with a game-high 21 points. Darrell Dean Junior had 16 points and five rebounds for Concord.
