BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – It’s been almost 10 years since Bronson High School graduate Sarah Haylett-Jones lost her life while serving in the line of duty as a deputy in the Monroe County, Indiana Sheriff’s Department.
Haylett-Jones was born in Sturgis. She died at the age of 27 in October 2008, two days after a teenage driver hit her as she was directing traffic around a wrecker that was removing a stranded vehicle from a ravine near Bloomington, Indiana.
An annual fund raising event called “Sarah Irene’s Fall Harvest” will be held for a tenth straight year this weekend at 385 Otis Road.
The hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14. Pumpkins, indian corn, gourds and corn shocks will be among the items available. There will also be baked goods, apple cider donated by Glei’s Orchard
The proceeds will go to the Deputy Sarah Irene Haylett-Jones Memorial Fund and to the Branch Area Careers Center Criminal Justice Scholarship.
