QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In the Big 8, undefeated Springport compiled 516 yards of total offense as they defeated Quincy 52-28 on Military Appreciation Night in Quincy. The Spartans scored the first 30 points of the game as they improved to 7-0 and remained tied for first place in the Big 8 with Reading.
Evan Henning threw a 32 yard TD pass to Caleb McCavit. Henning and Jake Gifford had rushing touchdowns for the Orioles while Sebastian Gillette returned a kickoff 85 yards for another score. Brandon Harrison rushed for 62 yards while McCavit and Jordan Nelson both had six tackles. Quincy is now 4-2 in the Big 8 and 4-3 overall.
Union City kept their post season hopes alive as they improved to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the Big 8 with a 23-8 victory at Concord. The Chargers dominated as they compiled 359 yards of total offense.
Gavin Hooker sprinted 38 yards for a first quarter score. Larson Kever’s two second quarter TD’s put the Chargers up 20-0 at intermission. Riley Rivard’s 22 yard field goal closed out the Union City scoring. Hooker rushed for 172 yards while Kever passed for 140 yards. Nicholas DeLisle led the defense with six tackles.
Homer pulled away in the second half as they defeated Bronson 38-14. Bronson only trailed 16-14 after the first quarter but the Trojans scored 22 unanswered points after that. The Viking touchdowns were scored by Brendan Withington and Justin Blankenship. Bryant Anthony rushed for 76 yards and scored a two point conversion. Jorge Segura led the Vikings defense with 14 tackles while Logan Fletcher recorded 12 tackles.
And Reading remained undefeated with a 62-0 thumping of Jonesville. The Rangers will take on the 7-0 Springport Spartans next Friday for the Big 8 championship.
