COLON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is looking for three men who they say tried to rob a Sturgis man Friday afternoon after one of them faked being out of gas.
Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says deputies were dispatched to the area of M-86 near Fairfax Road in Colon Township at 12:27 p.m..
He reports a 45-year-old Sturgis man was flagged down by a man in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck with Illinois license plates who was stopped alongside the road. The man requested assistance with gas and the Sturgis man agreed to take him to a gas station.
The suspect along with two other men approached the victim and pulled him from his vehicle at gunpoint.
They held him down in the back seat of his vehicle while the suspects searched for money. After they couldn’t find any money on the victim, the three suspects retreated to their Ford F-150 and left the scene heading west on M-86 towards M-66.
All three suspects were said to be in their 30’s. The victim was not injured during the assault.
Lillywhite says the case is still under investigation and anyone with information is urged to call the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office or St. Joseph County Central Dispatch. The Sheriff’s Office received assistance from Colon Police.
