MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – It was a busy weekend for Branch County high school wrestling teams.
The Union City varsity wrestlers traveled to Marshall Saturday for the Joe Wheeler Invitational and came home with the championship trophy, beating Gull Lake 62-12, Parma Western 45-30, Lansing Everett 77-6, Jonesville 64-15,. and Marshall 57-22.
The Chargers’ Blayne Crance picked up his 100th career win at the meet.
The Union City junior varsity and girl wrestlers competed at Three Rivers Invitational Friday night and brought home the hardware as well. Onalee Taylor finished in third place at 105 pounds, with Madalynne Hawthorne second at 110, Carter Bezaire fourth place at 157, and Wyatt Thompson third place at 165 pounds.
The Bronson High School wrestling team competed at the Detroit Catholic Central Invitational Saturday, considered one of the toughest meets in the state. Gabe Erwin finished second in high weight class, while Layne Knisely and Sam Tappenden each finished third, Caleb Harvey fourth, and Connor Harvey sixth on their weight classes.
