QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – It’s been almost six years since the Quincy Orioles beat the Bronson Vikings in girls basketball but that was the story on Tuesday night in the Coolest Gym in Michigan.
The Orioles never trailed as they defeated the Vikings 60-52 in a Big 8 Conference game.
The Orioles had lost 13 straight to the Vikings going back to January 14, 2020 when they defeated Bronson on that night 39-36 behind 17 points from Katie Rathbun.
In Tuesday’s game, the Orioles jumped out to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter and used a 12-6 second quarter to take a 27-17 halftime lead.
Bronson fought back in the third quarter and cut the Quincy lead down to 35-33. But the Orioles settled down and led 43-38 heading into the final period.
Three Bronson players had to play with four fouls in the final period which prevented the Vikings from getting no closer than six points for the rest of the game.
Four Quincy players finished in double figures led by Kendyl Musielewicz who scored a game-high 18 points. Ashlyn Fickle and Miley Poindexter each had 11 points while Kora Timmons added 10 points. Fickle also grabbed nine rebounds.
Bronson was led by Lydia Wells with 13 points while Itzel Albarran had 11 points and Berenice Luviano grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Orioles are now 2-1 in the Big 8 and 2-3 overall. Bronson drops to 1-2 in the Big 8 and 1-4 overall.
