KNIGHTSTOWN, IN (WTVB) – When the Union City Chargers opened the 2026 portion of their schedule on January 2nd against Homer it wasn’t your typical Friday night in a high school gym.

The Chargers and Trojans drove nearly three hours south to Knightstown, Indiana to play in the iconic “Hoosier Gym”, the same gym that served as the home court for coach Norman Dale and the mythical “Hickory Huskers” in the classic 1986 movie “Hoosiers”.

Chargers boys coach Ben Chard says it was a once and a lifetime experience
Being the home team for the games the Chargers even used the same locker room where Gene Hackman delivered his epic pregame speech.
Chard says it took some time to get the game scheduled, but it was well worth the wait
After the games both teams had signed jerseys hung in the gym cementing their legacy in basketball history.
