DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II announced Monday morning, he is suspending his gubernatorial campaign to run for Michigan Secretary of State.
Gilchrist framed the decision as a strategic move to defend Michigan’s democratic institutions, citing the state as “ground zero” in the battle for free and fair elections. Having served alongside Governor Gretchen Whitmer since 2019, Gilchrist highlighted his background as a computer engineer and public servant as foundational to his new campaign.
