COLDWATER, MI — The City of Coldwater is proceeding with plans to install a new fountain in the southeast quadrant of Four Corners Park, with a targeted completion date of this fall.
Monday the City Council unanimously accepted a “sculptureless” design presented by landscape architect Pam Blough. putting an end to years of community debate regarding whether a modern sculpture should accompany the water feature.
The project, a realization of a long-held vision by the late former councilwoman Maureen Petzko, whose family provided initial seed money, will see the fountain situated in the circular lawn area next to the Branch District Library.
The approved design includes several modern features, such as programmable lighting that can be customized for holidays and modular water units offering various spray shapes.
The city has committed to funding the installation using its own financial reserves, thereby avoiding reliance on state grants or special taxes.
While initial cost estimates for more complex iterations of the project had previously exceeded $800,000, the current simplified design is anticipated to be more financially manageable with estimates coming in under $250,000 without the sculpture.

Absolutely ridiculous. The city has a enclosed fire pit with nice seating on the other corner. And that was removed, because people were actually using it. (?).
No matter where the funds have come from, the city could have found better uses for those monies. Coldwater has such a large homeless population, that money could have went to helping to supply shelters or “halfway” homes to help them get restablished into the community again. It’s the same with the booze alley sign on Monroe street. Just wasting more money. Ugh
We need more individual family housing that’s affordable AND ALLOWS PETS!!! How about fixing the lack of housing problems.
