UNDATED (WTVB) – Coldwater, Bronson, and Union City played their Homecoming football games Friday night. The Cardinals and Vikings dropped their contests, while the Chargers needed overtime to make it a happy Homecoming.
Marshall 42, (at) Coldwater 28
At Cardinal Field, Marshall defeated Coldwater 42-28 in a contest that saw both teams combine for nearly 800 yards of total offense. The visiting Redhawks finished with 227 rushing yards and 169 passing yards for a total of 396, while the Cardinals had 237 rushing yards and 165 passing yards for a total of 402. Matt Gipple scored twice, on a 4-yard TD run and a 71-yard pass from Gage McGuire. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Dylan Targgart, scored on the ensuing 2-point conversion and added a 7-yard TD catch. Griffen Olmstead finished the Coldwater scoring with a 5-yard TD run. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-4 overall, 2-3 in the Interstate 8.

Larson Kever almost single-handedly made it a happy Homecoming for Union City. The quarterback had touchdown runs of 17 and 7 yards in regulation to tie the game; he also had what wound up being the game-winning 10-yard TD run in overtime and the ensuing 2-point conversion as the Chargers held off Homer 20-12 at Alumni Field. Kever finished the night with 151 yards rushing on 22 carries as well as 6/13 passing for 73 yards; he also led the defense with 15 total tackles. Brendan Stuchell had a 30-yard reception, while Josh Watson had 3 catches for 19 yards and 5 carries for 29 yards as Union City improves to 3-3 overall, 2-3 in the Big 8.
Reading 63, (at) Bronson 0
At Bronson’s Charles Hilton Field, Division 7 6th-ranked Reading cruised to a 63-0 win against the Vikings on Homecoming night. The Rangers led 48-0 after 1 quarter and never looked back. Brenden Withington had 10 carries for 28 yards to lead Bronson’s offense; he also led the defense with 11 total tackles. The Viking drop to 0-6 overall, 0-5 in the Big 8.
Quincy 41, (at) Concord 6
In non-Homecoming football games around the area, Quincy almost got the shutout at Concord, beating the Yellow Jackets 41-6. Brandon Harrison had an electrifying 77-yard touchdown run in the second quarter; he finished with 16 carries for 129 yards, while Evan Henning had 7 carries for 80 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns; he was also 3/8 passing for 72 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Caleb McCavit had all three receptions. Henning also led the defense with 8 total tackles, while Dalton Messenger and Evan Coon had 7 tackles apiece as the Orioles improve to 4-2 overall, 4-1 in the Big 8.
(at) Tekonsha 82, Waldron 6
In 8-man football, Tekonsha improved to 4-2 while picking up their second 80-plus point game of the season, beating visiting Waldron 82-6. The Indians led 38-0 after 1 and 76-6 at the halftime break.
