COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It rained triples at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium Friday night as the Coldwater Cardinals hosted the Hastings Saxons in Interstate 8 action.
The Saxons led the varsity girls contest 5-0 before the Cardinals went on a 37-point run that spanned the final 1:35 of the first quarter, all of the second, and the first 2 minutes of the third, as Coldwater cruised to a 65-19 victory. In the process, they went 12-of-30 from the 3-point line and forced 24 Hastings turnovers.
Mya Porter had a game-high 15 points, including 4 triples, and added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Addy Bucklin also drained 4 triples and finished with 12 points and 2 boards. Rylie VanAken had 11 points, including a three-pointer, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Coley Burkhardt, Vandria Bucklin, and Paisley Harvey had the other triples as all nine available players scored at least two points.
With their fifth straight win, Coldwater improved to 7-4 overall, 5-1 in the Interstate 8. They will travel to Holt on Tuesday.
Hastings won the JV girls contest 35-22. Mackenzie Miller, Jemma Chehowski, and Ellerie Bucklin each scored 6.

The boys game was tight through the first half, with the Saxons leading 7-6 after one and the Cardinals taking a 15-13 advantage to the halftime break. Coldwater went on a 22-9 run in the third quarter and held off Hastings to win 50-38.
The Cardinals made 8 three-pointers in the game. Dayton Ennis had four triples and led all scorers with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Julian Thompson had a pair of threes and finished with 11 points and 3 boards. Evan Lewis added 7 points, including his first varsity triple, to go with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Bennett McDonald had the other three-pointer and Owen Tappenden had a game-high 5 rebounds.
Coldwater improved to 5-8 overall, 3-3 in the Interstate 8. They are idle until next Friday’s road trip to Marshall.
