PARMA, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School gymnastics team traveled to Parma Western for the second dual meet of the season Thursday night.
The Cardinals dropped the contest, but did end the night with six individual Regional qualifiers.
The Cardinals started the meet on bars with the White team. Payton Taylor was up first, competing, followed by Berkley Stewart, who was competing for the first time this season. For the Red team, competing were Kennedy Austin (4.125), Maryfer Galvan (4.775), Sofia Gruner (5.675), and Macy Poradzisz (6.075).
For the second event, the Cardinals went to vault. Starting them off was the White team, with Stewart, who did vault for the first time, followed by Taylor, Jalianna Zepeda, and Lily Scheidler.
For the Red team, the Cardinals had three girls get regional qualifiers. This included Austin getting her second qualifier on vault with a 7.95, Galvan getting her first qualifier with a 7.95, and Gruner getting her third qualifier on vault with an 8.225. Poradzisz and Johnson (7.8) also competed for the Red team.
Floor started with one of Coldwater’s freshmen, Mariana Duque Bermudez, followed by Stewart, Taylor, Zepeda, and Scheidler. The Red team included Austin, Galvan (7.3), Kinley Cummings (7.5), Gruner, who got her first regional qualifier on floor with a 7.85, Poradzisz, and Johnson, ending floor with her first qualifier on floor with a 7.8.
Making their debut for the White team on beam were Zepeda and Taylor, both getting a personal best of the season with a 5.825 and 5.675, respectively. Our red team was up next, which included Austin, Galvan (6.0), Johnson (7.05), Poradzisz (6.45), and ending with Gruner, who got her third qualifier on beam with a 7.65. For all-around, Gruner placed third with a 29.4.
Coldwater will travel to Rockford January 17 for the annual Flip-Flop meet.
