LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Senate has approved a bill to ban cell phones in all K-12 public school classrooms.
The House passed the bill earlier this week and the Senate vote signaled bicameral support for a rare bipartisan effort in education policy. Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt said the bill is “a good reminder that education policy shouldn’t be partisan.”
The House needs to approve a bill tie-barred in the Senate to provide exemptions for using a cell phone in an emergency before it goes to Governor Whitmer for her signature.
