COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council introduced a pair of resolutions Monday night regarding the proposed $180,000 sale of nine vacant parcels on Wallace Lane as part of the first phase of the Western Meadows development, but not before a local resident expressed her anger about the proposed sale.
Plans call for single-family homes to be built on the land along Western Avenue. Each of the parcels are being sold for $20,000.
Pending final action by the Council, four parcels are being sold by the city to Alliance Homebuilders. The five other parcels will be sold to Green Development Ventures.
Alliance Homebuilders is owned and operated by David and Monica Lowder while Green Development Ventures is owned and operated by Allen Edwin Homes.
Both were selected as bid winners to construct homes in the development and have built several homes in the Coldwater area.
While some customers have expressed satisfaction with Allen Edwin homes for quality and affordability, others like Karen Kline did not like the way their residence on Thompson Boulevard was constructed.
She also felt the Council should think about offering middle income housing.
The City Charter requires that when public property is sold, the conveyance must remain on the table for 30 days for public inspection.
The first regularly scheduled City Council meeting where the sale could be acted upon is March 9.
The vacant lots are being developed as part of the first of three phases.
