BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals got back on the right track Friday as they won at Jackson Northwest 42-6 and spoiled the Mounties Homecoming once again. Coldwater built a 30-6 halftime lead. Griffin Olmstead scored twice in the first quarter on a 12 yard run and on a 21 yard touchdown pass from Gage McGuire. The Cardinals got their second quarter points on a safety, a 16-yard touchdown by Matt Gipple and McGuire’s 40 yard interception return. Second half touchdowns by Travis Roby and Bo Branham wrapped the scoring for the Cardinals as they improved to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the Interstate 8. Coldwater’s defense held Northwest to just two first downs. Coldwater had a 351-96 edge in total yards. The only touchdown for the Mounties came on a 90 yard kickoff return.
Our McDonald’s Players of the Game were Olmstead and McGuire. Olmstead and Gipple both rushed for 86 yards. Branham led the defense with five tackles.
