COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Farm Bureau members passed a local resolution during their annual meeting Monday night at the Dearth Community Center in Coldwater that encourages District Two County Farm Bureaus to host a Michigan AG Associate Rescue Program during the next two years. The MAARS program is a farm accident rescue course. The resolution called for the training in part because of the turnover of volunteer and part-time/on-call firefighters.
Four state resolutions were also passed. One of the resolutions called for tax deductions or incentives for the installation of filter strips in order to keep nutrients out of lakes, streams and drains.
Another resolution encouraged County Drain Commissioners be elected and not be appointed by County Board of Commissioners.
Two of the state resolutions covered horse drawn wagons and buggies. One called for the annual licensing of horse drawn vehicles that are used mainly on public roads. In addition, all animals and vehicles be required to have rubber shoes and/or wheels in order to keep roads from getting worn out.
A resolution from the floor that said “We support free trade and urge our Michigan Farm Bureau delegates to enact policy resolutions that ensure free and fair trade and stand against tariffs” was also passed by the local Farm Bureau membership.
Directors Eric Bronson, Mike Hard, Brian Preston and Josh Norton all retained their positions.
