COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School gymnastics team hosted Tecumseh and celebrated their senior night for Sofia Gruner and Macy Poradzisz Wednesday.
The Cardinals dropped the contest by a score of 117.125-134.425. Despite the loss, the Cardinals ended the night with their personal best team score of the year, not just for the Red team but also for the White team, which scored a 98.35. Along with that, the Cardinals got 15 total qualifying scores throughout the night.
The White team started off vault with Berkley Stewart, Payton Taylor, who got her first qualifier on vault, Jalianna, and Lily Scheidler, who also got her first qualifier on vault. Following them was the red team. Annika Johnson (8.15), Kennedy Austin (8.1), Maryfer Galvan (7.9), and Kristian Thornton (8.3) all got regional qualifiers on vault. Austin and Thornton are officially qualified for regionals on the vault.
Last up for the Red team was the senior Poradzisz, scoring a 7.8, and Gruner, who also got yet another qualifier with an 8.3.
Next up was bars, with the White team starting with Taylor; up after her was Scheidler, performing her bars for the first time this season, and ending with Stewart. The Red team showcased Galvan (4.75), Austin, and Thornton (5.65). Johnson scored a personal best with her new routine with a 6.4. Last up were seniors. Gruner scored a 4.6, and Poradzisz scored a 6.0.
Beam was up next, and performing for Coldwater’s White team were Scheidler, Taylor, and Stewart, and showing off her new skill on the beam was Zepeda, competing in a cartwheel roundoff series. The Red team also had some new variety; Austin was up first, and following her was Kinley Cummings, competing on beam for the first time. After that, Galvan got her first beam qualifier of the season with a 7.425. Thornton and Johnson (7.05) were up next, and last up was the senior Poradzisz, gaining her second beam qualifier of the season with a 7.4, and ending beam with Gruner getting a 7.35.
Floor was last in the meet. Stewart, Zepeda, and Taylor started for the White team, and Scheidler ended for the White team, gaining her second floor qualifier of the season with a 7.8. The Coldwater Red team started with Thornton gaining her first qualifier on floor with a 7.95; Austin was up next, and following her was Cummings (7.8), gaining a qualifier; Galvan and Johnson (8.1) also gained regional qualifiers.
Johnson is now officially qualified for regionals on the floor. The seniors ended the night, both gaining yet another qualifier, with Gruner getting an 8.3 and Poradzisz getting a 7.9.
In the All Around, Gruner placed 4th, Poradzisz placed 3rd, and Johnson placed 2nd. Girls who are officially going to regionals are Gruner, Austin, Johnson, and Thornton.
Coldwater will host their annual Stick It for a Cure meet Saturday, February 7 for their next competition.
