COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – School boards for two Branch County districts will take final action Monday to put millage requests on the May ballot.
Both Coldwater Community Schools and Quincy Community Schools have received approval from the State of Michigan Treasury Department on the language for the proposals. They need to submitted to the Branch County Clerk’s Office by Tuesday, February 10 to make the May 5, 2026 ballot.
The Coldwater Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday to approve the School Bond Election Resolution. The 1.5 mill, $64 million bond proposal would fund significant renovations and upgrades to Coldwater High School.
The Board of Education in Quincy moved up its meeting one week to make the February 10 deadline for submission. Because the district’s tax base is lower than Coldwater’s, Quincy’s $60 million proposal will appear as a 5.3 mill increase on the ballot. With other existing debt being paid off, Superintendent John Denney says the net increase for voters would be around 4.5 mills.
The bond plan, developed after an assessment revealed an immediate need for $8.7 million in critical repairs, focuses on renovating existing structures rather than building new schools.

Plans include:
Demolishing the existing 1931 middle school building to create a new parking lot.
Converting the old middle school gymnasium into a “cafetorium” with a kitchen and stage.
Renovating the current high school to accommodate middle school administration and science labs.
Adding a new two-story classroom building and gymnasium at the high school.
Building a new bus garage and expanding parking at Jennings Elementary.
