COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Senior Night for the Coldwater boys basketball team began with injured co-captain Jackson Reilly getting the Cardinals’ first basket of the game. It ended with the home team earning a 51-49 victory over Harper Creek Friday at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
No team had a lead larger than four points throughout, as the Beavers led 15-14 after the first quarter and 29-27 at the half. Coldwater outscored the visitors 14-10 in the third quarter to take a 41-39 advantage to the final stanza. Both teams played to a 10-10 stalemate in the fourth. Harper Creek had two chances to tie the game in the waning seconds, but were denied by the Cardinal defense.
Gavin Taylor led all scorers with 16 points and 3 assists, while fellow senior Julian Thompson had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Coldwater improved to 8-9 overall, 5-4 in the Interstate 8, and will host league leader Pennfield Tuesday night.
